When: June 21st – 25th
What: Children’s Program @ Red River Family Encampment
Who: Adults and teenagers
Interested in going on an out of town trip to go serve people? We’re headed to Red River to help out with the Children’s Program during the Red River Family Encampment.
What would I be doing? – At RRFE, we help run a Children’s Program from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Children from 4 years old to 2nd grade go through different stations during this time: Bible Story, Recreation, Singing Class, Crafts, etc. If you’re an adult, we need help with running a station (such as Crafts). You’d be in collaboration with Addison in coming up with material, and then responsible for being the ‘teacher’ when the kids come to your station. If you are a teenager, we need you to be an assistant, helping the kids and spending time with them.
How many people do you need? – The more, the merrier. However, ideally, we’d like to have at least 6 adults and 13 teenagers. This would make sure everything is comfortably staffed and everyone has enough help and assistants.
What does the trip look like? – We leave from the Church building at 9:00am on Saturday. When we arrive at Red River, we get things set up for the Program. On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, we help run the Children’s Program from 9am to 12pm. After that, we get to enjoy time together and do some activities. On Wednesday, we help clean up and then head home, arriving back at the Church at around 4:00pm on Wednesday.
Where is Red River? – Red River is up near Taos. It is a ski resort town with lots of tourist attractions. During the winter, people come to ski on the mountain. During the summer, they host lots of outdoor activities and events. The Red River Family Encampment is a large Church of Christ gathering with keynotes, singing, and exhibitions.
Is the trip hard? – This mission trip is an easy entry into doing this kind of work. The Program only lasts 3 hours and we work with kids who are growing up in Christians homes. We’re also only gone for 5 days. During out down time, we spend time at our condos, hangout near the mountain, and even do some of the activities in town, like the chairlift to the top of the mountain, or the innertube slides.
Where would we be staying? – We typically stay in condos that RRFE provides for those helping staff the Program. The condos come fully furnished with bedding, pots and pans, shower towels, and everything else to make it feel like home. We usually put all the girls in one condo and all the boys in another condo. From the condos, it’s about a 5-10 minute walk to the park where we host the Children’s Program. Depending on the condo we get, we have swimming opportunities, too.
Do I need to raise any money to come? – This trip does not yet require fund raising. Our bigger, longer trips do, but not this one. The only money you’ll need to bring is enough money for a few meals and any money you wish to have for souvenirs.
I’m interested in helping, but nervous about coming up with material for my station – No problem! We have lots of material that we’ve used before for things like Rec, Crafts, and Games. RRFE usually has a theme that helps us decide what Bible lessons to teach, etc. We will be checking in on each other, so if you have any creative blocks, we’re there to help.
What do I get out of all of this? – Most importantly, you get to serve others and help play a role in the spiritual lives of kids. This trip is also a really fun one, too. We get to spend a lot of time together, do devotionals, cookouts, play games inside and outside, go swimming, go hiking, slide down the foothills on innertubes, and lots more. Good work and good play!
Again, we really can use the help. If you’ve never been on the trip before, ask some of us who have been on it. It’s a very rewarding trip where you make lots of memories together. If you’re interested please sign up below, text me, or tell me in person.
Thanks!
