Kathy, Zach and I made the long drive (1,100 miles) to Novato, CA last week to spend much needed time with James, David Wesley, Jonathan and Alyssa—we drove instead of flying because, at the time, only flying would require us to self quarantine for 2 weeks on our return. So much for those plans! Halfway through our week we received the word that automobile travelers would have to self-quarantine on arriving home. And that’s why we are joining many of you worshipping at home this Sunday and the next, while first Craig and then Addison will preach. Is it a nuisance? Yes! Was it worth it? Absolutely! I’ll pay two weeks quarantine for one week with my grandkids every time!
I’ve never been quarantined before and this new experience has me thinking about my Christian walk - specifically, I wonder: ‘is my faith contagious enough that the enemy would want me quarantined in order to prevent the spread of Christianity?’ Or, to put it another way, ‘Am I doing such a good job of spiritual distancing and masking my identity as a Christian that I am no danger of infecting anyone else with my faith?’ Have I been self-quarantining from lost people who need to be infected? Has the church self-quarantined from the world?
We worship an irresistible God. We serve an irresistible Savior. We are led by an irresistible Spirit. We have been saved by the irresistible Gospel. I think it is time for us to open the doors of our hearts, houses and churches and go out and infect our world with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
I’m not ashamed of the Good News. It is God’s power to save everyone who believes… Romans 1:16
